Welcome to Year 6!

Thank you for visiting our page.  We hope that you enjoy reading about all of our amazing learning and having a look at some of our fabulous work.  Keep checking back for regular updates of us all having lots of fun while we learn…

Our current Learning Challenge: ‘Will you ever see the water you drink again?’

Happy New Year!  This term got off to an incredibly exciting start when Mr Bailey, from ‘Animate 2 Educate’, spent an afternoon with us…and a full set of his iPads!  We learned all about the water cycle and used the iPads to demonstrate our learning.  Check out some of our efforts and see if you can spot our ‘ever-so posh’ vocabulary:

Autumn Term Learning Challenge: ‘Does the punishment always fit the crime?’

In Year 6, we have been getting engrossed in all things criminal!  Don’t worry, it’s not as bad as it sounds…we’ve been learning all about the changes in crime and punishment since Roman Britain and how these have influenced our current justice system.  We have been astonished by how harsh some of the past punishments were (as well as being fascinated by all of the gore!).

In our English lessons, we have been reading the novel ‘Holes’, by Louis Sachar and we are absolutely enthralled.  We have produced persuasive writing to outline why the judge should reconsider his verdict and have experimented with some exciting sentences to describe Camp Green Lake.  We used our exciting sentences to help us in other writing too. Have a look at some examples of our opening to a story with flashbacks…

As part of our learning, we visited York Dungeon and enjoyed a truly fascinating (if, at times, a little scary) day out.  After the dungeon, we all went on a walking city tour to see where famous Yorkshire criminals such as Dick Turpin, met their fate.  Take a look at some of our pictures from the day…

Following our visit, we were asked to create some new leaflets for York Dungeon to persuade more visitors to explore the attraction.  Why not pop along to our classroom, or check out some examples on Twitter, to see what you think of some of our efforts?

Monozukuri Caravan event @Nissan, Sunderland

To help us develop our team work skills and find out more about a career at Nissan, we visited the Global Training Centre in Sunderland and had an absolute ball! The day started with cookies and juice (what more could we ask for?!) and before 10am, we were learning Japanese (we even wowed some of our ‘guides’ by introducing them to Kung Fu Punctuation, much to Mrs Pegman’s delight!).

After a very quick break, we formed teams and created our very own production lines, where we faced our next challenge: to make the Nissan Buddy to the highest quality and in the quickest time.  Check out some of us in action…

Later in the day, we visited the training centre to find out more about how robots feature in daily life at Nissan, as well as learning a little more about electric vehicles and we even got to have races using gas powered Formula 1 replica cars (safely on a mini track, of course…we certainly weren’t behind the wheel!).  It really was a fantastic day…all topped off with the obligatory school trip selfie, which can be seen on our school Twitter page!
